Confederacy of Stars

"Welcome to the Confederacy of Stars, cadet! During your training, you will be placed in disorienting and strange environments. These environments are not set up to be either fair or hospitable. You will never have enough authority, time, resources or information to make perfect decisions as a leader in the Confederacy. Your goal is not to obtain perfect conditions for success…it is to excel despite not having them.

You will be participating in a series of missions during your training. You will succeed by achieving individual, team and squadron mission objectives. Your team objectives will be to accomplish your mission and to survive the significant hazards that will arise from the enemy, environment and even from within the team itself! Your individual goal is to accumulate a sufficient number of Star-Points in order to graduate from the Confederacy of Stars, earn your wings and assume your responsibilities as a Commander of your own Starship."

With these words from the Confederacy Commander, participants plunge into an exhilarating galaxy 1000 years in the future. They face challenges and choices designed to bring them face to face with their own abilities as a leaders, managers, and/or team members. Together they strategize, plan, take action and face the consequences of their choices (without the real world consequences of failure) in an overwhelmingly creative, sometimes stressful and fun experience. Participants take risks, enjoy, learn and take a quantum leap forward in their own understanding and development.

The Confederacy of Stars is designed to provide participants with an engaging learning environment based on many elements of today's challenging business and organizational life. Through a series of one to five half-day interconnected, simulated, and strangely different worlds, participants are challenged to develop and hone key managerial, leadership and teaming skills. The value of each of the five experiences is maximized through facilitated group debriefs. Participants draw key insights from their experiences and these translate back to real-life application.

By the end of the Confederacy of Stars experience, participants will be emotionally engaged and intellectually immersed in the following learning outcomes. You can focus on one of more of these as the debriefings progress from one experience to the next.
